These past 10 days we’ve been exploring Zadar, Gracac, Deringaj and Lost Theory festival. It’s been the best ending to our trip; making more memories with more new friends. Lost Theory is an adults’ play ground of hitch hiking, dust, rivers, mountains, drugs and trance boogying. As soon as we arrived at the Gracac bus station we found a lift; a yellow Westfalia with two spaces left. They were a group of five Germans, with perfect English and lots of beer! We set up camp together before the hoards arrived a few days later, spending most nights sat playing guitar with tea lights, learning swear words in German and sharing whiskey and beer.
The first week was unbearably hot, and consisted mainly of swimming in the cold river, napping in our hammocks, drinking, going to workshops, 5am walks in the mountains to find even colder springs, and massages.
The last two days there was storm after storm; all of our kit was wet, everything was muddy and everybody was cold. But with it came lots of mud to dance in, group huddles with tea and coffee, and a nice break from the heat. The festival ended with the burning of a giant bird sculpture and fire-dancing entertainment. Now we’re back in Split for our flight home tomorrow. We can’t wait to sleep in our own bed again, see our families and have a nice bath, but we will miss the excitement of discovering new places and meeting wonderful people. Our trip has been the most amazing journey, and now we can’t wait until the next one. This may be our last post, but it certainly isn’t our last adventure!
