Ross arrived in Sofia on the evening of the first, and we headed up the mountain Vitosha to stay in a hostel up at the ski resort – needless to say, we’re back in the snow! After a night watching the skiers and drinking hot chocolate we walked back down the mountainside to another hostel at the bottom, in a district of Sofia called Dragalevski. It took us a few hours, and most of that Shannon slid down the snowy path with her waterproof trousers on! The snow was really deep, but it was a beautiful sunny day, and we had an amazing view of Sofia. Yesterday we walked up to the Dragalevski monastery, which was packed with people as it was Easter Sunday. It was a nice walk up; we filled our water bottles at the mountain streams, and managed to climb some very steep steps!
As a treat we walked through the rain to a spa up the road, and spent the evening in the pool and saunas. For dinner we went to a hotel restaurant, and had the best meal so far – creamy cheesy pasta with veg and seafood for us, and Ross ordered traditional ‘sach,’ which was a huge plate of amazing roasted vegetables. We’re heading back to the centre of Sofia tomorrow for Ross’ plane on the 8th, and will probably go back to Soup House, a really good soup cafe we found earlier in the week, which does the best lentil soup since Arabella’s. But for now we’re now in our hostel in Dragalevski after our tiring day spa-ing and eating. It snowed overnight, and we’re in bed watching it through the window, listening to music, having a lazy day.
