We made it to Bulgaria!
After a total of 20 hours on the trains, we’re finally in Sofia. And we had barely any trouble with the bikes, although they did get wedged down a very narrow corridor in the train today. Last night we stayed at Vila Flava in Craiova, which was the house of a lovely woman called Simone, who looked after us and worried about our early start in the morning and sent us on our way with apples and yoghurt (its very strange being mothered by a stranger, also lovely). The journey today was through miles of flat fields with shepherds herding their sheep and goats over the tracks, then winding up through mountains, caves and waterfalls as we got closer to Sofia.
We’re staying in a hotel near the train station tonight (and had a cheeky KFC for dinner), then tomorrow we’re heading to our cheaper hostel closer to town. We’re staying there for three nights, then meeting Ross on the 1st – and after that we’re finally camping!
