The past few days we’ve been staying at an expat’s house in the village at the bottom of the mountain, after we gave up trying to drive up in the snow. We hitched into town to buy a smaller tent; we managed to ask the driver to drive us straight to the shop, wait, and drive us back using hand gestures (however he did kiss Naomi on the lips goodbye).
This week we’ve been living on lots of eggs and chocolate. Greg introduced us to the Chicken Shed restaurant, and we cycle to get a chicken for dinner. (And play with two tiny kittens outside who we named Benjy and Chicken). And tonight we tried making our first omelette… Probably won’t try again.
Tomorrow we’re leaving for Craiova on route to Sofia, Bulgaria, which will include three trains starting from 7:30am to 9pm, none of which we have booked. Then we’ll stay a night in Craiova, and head out to get another train to Sofia in the morning, but we have a back up train to Vidin, then from there to Sofia, just in case – although that way includes a ferry and a long walk. Either way, lots of trains. Eventually we will be meeting our friend from the UK, hence all the effort trying to get there on time.
We said goodbye to Greg today (and miss him already), but we have Charlie the mouse for company tonight, who crawled into our rucksack last night and nibbled the chocolate off our biscuits.
