Since our last post we’ve been working at Arabella’s (our HelpX host), painting her new attic room, chopping wood, sorting out the garden and watching Greg build a bathroom. It’s snowing again, and these past couple of days have been spent trying to get the car up and down the icy mountain road into town.
On Thursday we left (again) to the bear sanctuary but missed the opening times after two hours of trying to grit the road and not fall off the mountainside. So instead, Greg’s friend drove us to see some caves up in the mountains, followed by ‘cozonac secuiesc’ – a very yummy hot sweet nut bread roll – by Dracula ‘s famous Bran castle, then a walk down a beautiful gorge from the film Cold Mountain.
On the way back dark we got stuck in the snow along with several other cars, so we gave up and spent the night with Greg’s friend in the village. It was Greg’s birthday, so we had a bit to drink and a good evening with everyone. We finally made it back up the road last night, after pizza in town.
This morning we’ve watched films and curled up on the sofas, recovering from the stress of nearly falling down the mountain. Tomorrow we’re not risking taking the car down again, so we’re waking up early to walk all the way to the bear sanctuary. It’s our last chance to see it, and the main reason we came here, so we’ll be layering up and setting off into the snow!
