Arrived at Zarnesti today – finally in the wilds!
We had a beautiful train journey today through the mountains outside Brasov this morning, feeling like Jack Kerouac, sitting in the carriage doorway with the guard looking out over the snow. Our hotel for the night is like a tiny Swiss chalet; we went out for a walk then came back laden with bread and cheese for lunch in bed as it started getting chilly. Saw the tiniest, fluffiest puppy on our way! Zarnesti’s a lot smaller than the other towns so far and really pretty, set against the snowy mountains, behind which lies Magura, where we’re headed tomorrow. Now we’re settling in for a cosy night before we go to our host’s tomorrow – where the snow is apparently thigh deep!
Don’t worry, we’ve got our waterproof trousers out, and our spoons for digging.
