First day of snow yesterday! We left the hotel at 5:30am, pushing our bikes to the train station and over the tracks in a flurry of snowflakes. We just made it to the train – which had bullet holes in the windows, patched up with Sellotape.
Everywhere we passed appeared abandoned, but there were loads of beautiful stray dogs running through the snow and sheltering under porches. Lots of amazing churches cemeteries in every village, and very colourful houses.
We made it to Sibiu and managed to push our bikes to a camping shop, which had two fabulous guys who spoke English. They managed to fix our bikes up (no idea how) and didn’t charge us, as well as giving us free camping gas. We caught the train to Brasov, and another friendly person helped us haul our bikes over our heads onto the train. We’re still not sure how you’d use public transport with a disability.
The journey to Brasov was beautiful, through thick snow and forests. There’s about half a foot of snow in Brasov now, but we’ve found a bed for the night. We had our first meal out last night – bolognese and carbonara for the equivalent of £4. Now we’re going explore the mountain at the end of the town, then tomorrow we’re off to Zarnesti to meet our HelpX host.
